Collaboration Project - Development and Dissemination of Women's Health Educational Content

Principal Investigator: Dr. Sara Jahnke

Funded by Federal Emergency Management Agency

Project Duration: 09/03/2020 – 09/02/2022

For this project, the Center for Fire, Rescue, and EMS Health Research (CFREHR) has partnered with Women in Fire and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).

The project has two main goals:

1) Disseminate information, resources and training focused on decreasing the risk of injury and improving health and wellness by promoting more inclusive, supportive fire departments; and

2) Develop and disseminate resources for women in the fire service and health care providers who work with them focused on reproductive health, pregnancy and breast feeding so departments, women, and physicians can make informed decisions to minimize risk of injury and promote health and wellness during pregnancy and postpartum.

The main goals of this project are translation and dissemination of evidence-based educational content and training. With over one million firefighters nationwide and millions more worldwide, this educational content has the potential to impact a vast majority of the fire service. Participation from our partners at national organizations will help make content dissemination successful and increase the reach and awareness of these educational tools.
