Military PTSD Treatment

Targeted Strategies to Accelerate Evidence-Based Psychotherapy Implementation in Military Settings

We have developed a new intervention to improve the implementation of effective evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) for PTSD within Military Treatment Facilities. We call this intervention Targeted Assessment and Clinic-Tailored Implementation of Change Strategies or TACTICS. TACTICS is a novel, dynamic intervention that delivers provider training in selected EBPs through existing mechanisms.

We are currently studying the effectiveness of TACTICS within eight military treatment facilities. While this study will specifically look at the implementation of Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, we expect the tools involved to apply to a wide range of clinical services and performance improvement outcomes. Our goals are to evaluate the impact of TACTICS and to determine the usability of and overall satisfaction with TACTICS. This research will inform refinements for scale-up and dissemination.
