Reproductive Health

Women Fire Fighters Study: Stress, Cancer Risk and Reproductive Toxicity

With this project, we are comparing incumbent female firefighters and newly recruited female firefighters with regard to their stress, reproductive health, and any potential biomarkers of cancer. With this data in hand, we will work with the Women in Fire organization to develop and beta test, a cross-department peer support health risk intervention program. We will then conduct a feasibility study of this program.

By the completion of this project, we will have identified exposures and risk factors for increased stress, cancer, and reduced ovarian reserve in female firefighters, which will inform future intervention studies. Further, the peer support intervention program will help to decrease stress and will be suitable for a future large-scale intervention study.
